Montessori for the Modern Mama: 5 Reasons Why

Dr. Maria Montessori observed that a child passes through four evolutionary ages from infancy to adulthood known as "Planes of Development." The essence of Dr. Montessori's educational approach is to meet the human needs of each stage: physically and spiritually.

Her observations (and now modern neuroscience) found the more fully the needs of one period are met, the greater will be the success of the next.

"You must not change a child to help him adapt himself to society. You must adapt the society to the needs of the child."

5 Reasons Why Modern Parents choose Montessori

  • The early years are literally the foundation for every aspect of self to come.
  • Children's development emerges as a need to adapt to his or her environment. They must find meaning in their world around them, and they create themselves in relation to it.
  • During the first years of a child's life, they absorb literally everything from their environment. The first plane of development starts from birth and continues until the child is around 6 years old. It's referred to as 'the absorbent mind' because every aspect of culture, language, parents habits and mindset, is being absorbed without discrimination.
  • Each stage differs significantly from the one before it, but each provides the groundwork for the next.
  • Although Montessori is still considered "alternative" in Australia and the western world, as an educational system, it is used in over 22,000 schools worldwide, and has a longer track record of success than any other educational approach.

Parenting is hard enough without layering in belief systems.
